5 Reasons Why You Should Remove Tree Stumps

Tree Stump Removal Haymarket VA

After you remove a tree for cosmetic, safety, or landscape health reasons, you still have an unsightly stump in your yard. Many homeowners believe simple removal is enough, overlooking the issues that could arise without tree stump removal services. While they appear unassuming, neglected stumps can spread disease, attract insects, and be just as dangerous as a dead or dying tree. So, contact a comprehensive tree care provider to prevent such issues before they occur.

Haymarket, VA, residents need not dig out any stumps in their yards. Timber Works Tree Care offers homeowners numerous arboreal services, including stump grinding, tree removal, land clearing, and forestry mulching. Below, we highlight 5 reasons you should have tree stumps removed:

1. To Inhibit the Spread of Disease

While cutting down a diseased tree helps maintain your yard’s health, addressing the ailing stump is equally crucial. If left behind, the root system attached to the stump may persist and contaminate the root systems of nearby trees. Even if you take preventative measures, it’s unwise to let the remnants of a diseased tree fester.

Additionally, stumps decay over time. Rotting stumps are an environment that fosters the growth of fungi and molds, which can quickly spread to other plants in your yard. Your family may also suffer health issues from these organisms. To stop the spread of disease and rot, tackle the root of the problem and remove tree stumps and roots.

2. To Reduce Insect and Pest Populations

Regardless of a stump’s decay status, it is an enticing food source and a potential home for many insects. In particular, leftover stumps draw termites and other wood-boring insects. Yet their infestations will not necessarily stop at a stump. After attacking nearby plants, they may notice another significant food source: your house. Avoid a costly extermination bill by employing a tree care provider with tree stump grinder experience to eliminate the issue.

3. To Improve Lawn Condition and Space

Anyone who has put off removing a stump has likely experienced the frustration of dealing with it while performing lawn maintenance. Maneuvering a lawn mower or weed eater around a stump is obnoxious and wasteful, yet accidentally running over or bumping into the stump (or a protruding root) can permanently damage your tools.

Additionally, large stumps occupy a significant amount of space in your yard. By removing the stump, you can reclaim your land for various purposes. Use that space to create a seating area, garden, or another project.

4. To Prevent New Growth

One of the most significant drawbacks of neglecting to clear away old stumps is the potential for new growth to emerge. If the roots of the removed tree remain healthy and in the ground, they can produce sprouts. Moreover, these sprouts can grow into multiple shafts so that—rather than a single trunk—the new growth has multiple trunks fighting for nourishment. The new tree takes nutrients from nearby plants and will eventually require a much more cumbersome removal than the original tree removal.

5. To Increase Your Property’s Safety

Unaddressed tree stumps can be particularly hazardous for homes with young children, pets, or accident-prone adults. For example, if your active dog attempts to jump over the stump and miscalculates, they may suffer injury from the impact. Furthermore, depending on the stump’s size, family members may be unable to see the hazard and take a nasty spill over it. If a guest trips over a hidden stump, it can also create a significant liability issue. Ensure the safety of your loved ones and visitors by having these hazardous stumps removed.

Timber Works recently removed a tree that was threatening the foundation of one of our buildings. This was my first experience with Timber Works, and it will not be the last. Their people were amazing. They, were friendly, they were courteous, they patiently explained every step and left the whole area incredibly clean. If they could get 10 stars, they would easily deserve them. I recommend them without reservation - they are the best!

I have used Timber Works twice for tree removal/trimming. They are prompt, professional, fairly priced, kind, and hard working. They were great sports (both times!) about having an audience of interested children, and were so nice to them— even to the point of asking them how long they wanted the cut branches, because my boys requested fort building material😊. I recommend Timber Works to anyone looking for tree removal/trimming/information, and will continue to!
Response from the owner:Thank you, Elizabeth for the review, but also the business! We are so glad that your kiddos were able to benefit from the work done at your property as well. We look forward to working with you in the future and appreciate your recommendation!

Multiple very large trees that needed removal to avoid hitting my house and neighboring house. Trees were not easy to access given location of patio that I wanted protected. Obtained multiple quotes for both price and approach to the job. Timber Works won on both criteria. Crew was great to work with. Four trees down with all trunks, limbs, and debris removed same day. They had all the right equipment for this job. The crew members were skilled and respectful. Highly recommend them.
Response from the owner:Thank you, John, for the kind review and business! It was our pleasure serving you and we hope to do so in the future!
