What Does a Tree Structure Evaluation Include?
While you can only guess when extreme weather might strike, you can prepare for it: have your trees evaluated to ensure they can withstand the worst conditions. A tree structure evaluation can identify structural weaknesses, which—left unaddressed—could result in a broken branch or falling tree. These evaluations cover many concerns, including:
- Cracks
- Splits
- Weakly Attached Branches
- Root Problems
- Symptoms of Decay
- Saturated Soils
- Poor Architecture
Why Should You Get a Tree Structure Evaluation?
Structurally unsound trees are dangerous. They can break and fall in windy—or clear—conditions, landing on people, buildings, or cars. Evaluations can help prevent this outcome and, in turn, preclude lawsuits, medical expenses, or extra insurance costs.
Even young and healthy trees can have structural problems. Young, unpruned trees may develop clustered limbs or crossed branches growing incorrectly. On the other hand, older trees are more susceptible to decay.
As above, you can prevent structural problems in your young trees by having them evaluated from an early age. Doing so allows you to take preventative measures against potential liabilities, particularly with trees that stand close to your home.
Professional tree inspectors can detect structural concerns with a thorough evaluation. Moreover, we can determine what tree care solutions will mitigate the risk of structural threats. Annual or seasonal evaluations ensure that you keep a close eye on your trees’ condition.
Post-Storm Evaluations
While getting a tree evaluation before a storm can prevent tragic outcomes, doing the same afterward can help you to catch damages and wounds to your trees. High winds, torrential rains, and lightning can damage pristine trunks and branches, yet you may not notice any problems from the ground.
Structural evaluations can determine whether storm-damaged trees will survive or require emergency removal. Our priority, as always, is the safety of our customers and their properties. Still, if a Timber Works arborist catches it early enough, a tree wound can be treated and its damage repaired.
What Happens When Structural Concerns are Found?
Treatment for structural concerns can include tree trimming, which reduces branch weight and increases wind resistance. Brace rods and cable supports can also help support weak branches. In cases where a significant amount of the tree is structurally compromised, we may suggest tree removal.

Very professional, prompt and courteous.They removed dead and conflicting branches on our three ornamental cheery trees. Removed a Leland Cypress that was over grown. Cut the bottom of vines on several trees to help kill the vines. Not just cutting them but cutting them back down to the ground. They cleaned everything up and left like they were never there. From the initial estimate with Mac all the way until the last tree hit the ground, these guys were fantastic. It’s amazing to see a crew work with such cohesion. They clearly take pride in their work and the crew led by Forman Ben showed up early and stayed until the job was done. We had 7 large trees over and around our house removed. The tactful approach between John 80’ up in the lift, Ben operating the crane, and the rest of the crew was exceptional. They exemplify what a team is and how it should work. Timber Works Tree Care is the most professional and best tree contractor I have contracted with over my 40yrs of home ownership. The are responsive, friendly, organized and do excellent work! From the first phone call through the estimate, scheduling, execution and cleanup they were prompt, attentive and easy to work with. Our job for them was to fell four mature trees about 50ft tall, remove all debris, grind the four stumps and remove a nearby brush pile in our yard. I figured it was likely an all-day job. Well, they sent three people with a chipper, a brush hauler, and a stump grinder. Ryan, Sean, and Ben got the job done in 3.5hrs!! Plus, they wore helmets with face shields and built-in ear protection/radio w/ mics so that they could work safely and efficiently together. Did I mention the price was reasonable, too?! Great service from the company. We had an arborist come out first to evaluate the property and then had Timber Works come out and evaluate and both had the same recommendations. Timber Works actually identified a cluster of trees that didn't outwardly look like it had any issues, but was very clearly rotted on the inside once it was taken down.The work crew showed up on time with all of the equipment and personnel necessary to take down the identified trees. Everyone was extremely conscientious of making sure that no property was damaged during their operations.Very communicative from the first step through scheduling and then the actual tree removal. Followed up immediately with emails to make sure we were happy with the service. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quality tree company. They ended up taking down 8 trees and doing some cabling on some existing trees to keep as much as the forest preserves as possible, so it was not a small job.

Our HOA (Frederick Woods) used TimberWorks to cut and remove 7 sizable trees. They also ground the stumps. In addition, we had them clear both sides of a drainage swale for several hundred feet. It was thick with mature brush. We then these guys show up it's a tree removal army. They show up with all the equipment needed to do the job and plenty of manpower.
